A total of 36 teams from across Perth attended a competition like no other on the weekend at a local high school.
Armadale Senior High hosted the First Lego League Regional Competition which saw both primary and secondary students design, build and program robots to perform autonomous missions on a playing field.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) coordinator and IT teacher Simon Montgomery said about 360 students took part in a variety of fun-filled activities throughout the day.
“They built and programmed small EV3 robots to complete various challenges,” he said.
“They also created an innovation project to present to a group of judges.
“These activities help students engage in STEM because it gives them something to work for.
“It helps them to collaborate with others which gives them more ideas.”
Teams from local schools including Cecil Andrews College, Byford Secondary College, Kelmscott Primary, Challis Community Primary, Clifton Hills Primary and Gwynne Park Primary took part in the inaugural event on December 1.
